Connecting to a DMK Box
The DMK Yacht Instruments has a great tutorial regarding how to connect an app to a DMK Box. When first powered up, the DMK Box creates an adhoc Wi-Fi network which can be joined by devices interested in receiving the marine data. You can follow the instructions in the tutorial to join an iOS device to the dmkyacht network. With that configuration in place, starting any of the Yachtter apps will connect with the DMK Box.
In some installations, there will already be a Wi-Fi network available on the boat. In that situation, it may be preferable to have the DMK Box join that Wi-Fi network, in infrastructure mode, rather than creating a new network. For example, if you boat has a connection to the Internet which is shared via Wi-Fi to computers and mobile devices, if the iOS device is connected to the DMK Box using the default adhoc network, it will not also be able to connect to the Internet. On the other hand, if the DMK Box is added to the existing Wi-Fi network, then the iOS device will be able to receive information from the DMK Box while also connect to the Internet.
If you have any questions, you may email them to Yachtter support.
Setup for Infrastructure Mode
Using either the iPhone or iPad version of DMK Setup, it is easy to configure a DMK Box to join an infrastructure based Wi-Fi network. Before you begin, you will need to know:
1. SSID of the network
2. Security configuration including WEP code or phasephrase
3. IP addressing information
With DMK Setup connected to the DMK Box (you can tell by the little green box with a 'Y' in the upper right corner of the display) and this information in hand, simply enter it into the "Custom" network in"Configuration" tab up. With the information entered, select the "Activate" button to have the information written to the DMK Box. After all the information is written, the DMK Box will reset. Upon restarting, the DMK Box will use the information just received to configure itself on the network. The writting of the information and restart may take up to a minute to complete. Before being able to communicate further with the DMK Box, you need to ensure the iOS device is on the same network for which the DMK Box was configured. If the SSID was changed, this requires going into the Setup app to join the proper Wi-Fi Network.
